Estimate the amount of gravel needed for your project with our easy-to-use gravel calculator. Get accurate results including wastage and cost estimates.
This tool allows you to estimate the amount of gravel needed for your project using metric units (meters and centimeters). It also helps you calculate the approximate cost based on the price per ton.
To get an accurate estimate, please enter the dimensions of your area in meters and the depth in centimeters.
Use a measuring tape to determine the length and width of the space where you plan to lay gravel.
Choose the depth in centimeters according to the intended use:
The density of gravel varies depending on the type. Generally, it is about 1.5 tons per cubic meter.
The price of gravel depends on the region and type. Enter an average cost to estimate your budget.
The gravel quantity is calculated as follows:
Volume = Length (m) × Width (m) × Depth (m) Total weight = Volume (m³) × Density (tons/m³)
A 10% surplus is recommended to account for losses.
Suppose you have an area that is 5 m long and 3 m wide with a depth of 10 cm (0.1 m):
Volume = 5 × 3 × 0.1 = 1.5 m³ Total weight = 1.5 × 1.5 = 2.25 tons Weight with losses = 2.25 × 1.1 = 2.48 tons
If the price of gravel is €30 per ton:
Total cost = 2.48 × 30 = €74.4
A depth of 10 cm is ideal for a drivable surface.
Use borders and compact the gravel well after installation.
With proper maintenance, a gravel driveway can last over 10 years.
